Welcome to Adventures with Wolfpack – A Brief Introduction

Raleigh and Iggy have both been members of our wolfpack for over a year now. This past year has been filled with less sleep than we’d like, and also more vomiting episodes than we’d like to try to count. However, for every time Iggy woke us up while he was adjusting to sleeping in his kennel, or every time Raleigh ate too much of her antler, there have been five times as many moments in which we’ve been immensely proud of them and thankful they came to us.

Both Raleigh and Iggy are rescue, mixed breed dogs. We adopted Raleigh from the Animal Humane Society, and Iggy from Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue. Raleigh was nine months when we adopted her, and Iggy was approximately two months. Adopting rescues can feel like jumping into water that you don’t know the depth of; you often have no idea where they came from or what they’ve experienced.

However, if there’s anything we’ve learned over the past year, it’s that just because we don’t know their history, it doesn’t mean they can’t have a successful future. Mixed breeds are every bit as intelligent and athletic as their purebred counterparts. Both Raleigh and Iggy participate in obedience, nose work, agility, and dock diving, and have the potential to compete in every other dog sport, just like a purebred. We’ve started this blog to tell our story, and with the hope that we’ll inspire other dog owners, especially those with rescues, to strive to strengthen their bonds with their dogs.
